Services Provided

Broadcast Management Group was contracted in 2023 to serve as a managed services provider, including consulting, system design, procurement, installation, training, installing and managing dark fiber between its new building and transmitter, media asset management, and augmented master control support—the Virginia Public Media’s new broadcast facility in downtown Richmond, VA and scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026. The facility will house corporate offices and feature multiple studios, control rooms for TV and radio operations, and podcast and event spaces designed to support internal production needs and provide production services to the community.

BMG’s involvement began at the consulting phase of the project, where we helped determine workflows, technology solutions, and space planning. We then collaborated with architectural and construction teams to develop detailed design drawings while creating high-level technology designs.

Deliverables
  • Comprehensive technology integration and outfitting of the new broadcast facility.
  • Design and installation of a Master Control area for managing 15 distinct television feeds, each with unique branding and audio configurations.
  • Development of two radio master control rooms supporting news and music stations.
  • Construction of two television studios, with associated control rooms, audio mixing rooms, and video rooms, each equipped with multiple workstations for graphic creation/playout and remote coordination.
  • Creation of two podcast studios that can also function as radio studios, expanding the radio capabilities to four, with two studios designated as radio master controls.
  • Implement three edit bays, including a post-edit suite for audio sweetening and color correction.
  • Installation of a media ingest room for managing all incoming feeds.
  • Advanced routing capabilities connect all spaces to the core, allowing any production position to access and participate in productions, maximizing efficiency and scalability.
