Why We Want To Know Your Production Budget

    “What’s your production budget?” That’s the million-dollar question (though it’s rarely a million-dollar answer).

    Our Expansion Into Broadcast Consulting

Broadcast Management Group expanded into broadcast consulting services to our clients a few years back (I know… strange that a company based in DC would offer consulting services, right?).  Since BMG formed 10 years ago, our main focus has always been multi-camera live production, but for a lot of reasons, our expertise in live production has really complimented our consulting practice.

Biggest Threats to Broadcast Television: Episode 3

Much like Facebook and Netlix, which we discussed in episodes 1 and 2 of our blog series – Amazon is positioning themselves to be one of the biggest threats to broadcast television.  Not only is Amazon creating and distributing their own original content – much like the aforementioned companies – but they’re also revolutionizing live content and e-commerce.

How GoPro is Attempting to Reach New Users

GoPro has had a good run.  Since launching in 2002, their tiny, user-friendly POV cameras have dominated the extreme sports industry.  If you ski or snowboard, you feel in the minority if you don’t have a Hero4 strapped to your head.  But it looks like GoPro doesn’t want to be pigeonholed to just extreme sports.  They’ve recently made some significant strides to try and reach new consumers.  Here’s a look at some of the new initiatives GoPro has made in an effort to expand beyond extreme sports.

Biggest Threats to Broadcast Television: Episode 2

In episode 1 of our latest blog series – which explores the biggest threats to broadcast TV – we looked at how Facebook is positioning themselves to steal “traditional” television audiences.  We talked about the Facebook Live platform, Facebook’s partnership with E!

The Challenges of Live Production in Times Square

If I can be completely frank, Times Square is probably my least favorite place in New York City.  Maybe it’s the endless sea of selfie sticks or the weird, knock-off Buzz Lightyear, but there are so many other areas of NYC that I’d much rather explore.  But despite my desire to not find any redeeming qualities about the place, there’s one thing that’s hard to deny, and that’s the almost physical energy it possesses.  There’s something slightly intoxicating about standing in the middle of Times Square.  The lights.  The sounds.

Biggest Threats to Broadcast Television: Episode 1

Broadcast television is edging forever closer to the endangered species list.  “Cord cutting” is not a fad, but a growing trend that continues to impact both cable providers and broadcast networks.  People are cutting ties with Time Warner and Comcast in favor of Hulu and Netflix.  They’re trading in their DirecTV dishes for Apple TV and ChromeCast.  And they’re doing so because content is available everywhere.  On our smart phones.  On our laptops.  On our SmarTVs.  You no longer need a cable subscription to watch your favorite shows.

A Look Inside BMG’s Live Production Toolbox

Every live production is different.  That’s something we say and tell our clients repeatedly.  There is no magic formula and no one-size-fits-all solution.  But to be honest, that’s part of what makes live production so exciting.  Every project makes you think.  You have to develop a custom approach and figure out what resources will deliver your client – and their audience – the best possible outcome.  It’s like putting together a puzzle.  A really stressful puzzle.
