The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) contracted Broadcast Management Group to provide broadcast consulting services for the build-out of a journalism school in Karachi, Pakistan – the Center for Excellence in Journalism. ICFJ was close to finalizing the build-out of their technical facilities in Pakistan and wanted an outside consulting team to assess equipment lists, architectural plans, and construction of the facility. Our broadcast consulting team served as advisors to ICFJ by reviewing, analyzing, and making recommendations on all infrastructure, architectural, and electrical plans developed by ICFJ’s contractor in Pakistan.
As part of our broadcast consulting services, Broadcast Management Group provided feedback on the feasibility and completeness of the plans as well as a thorough review of all equipment lists to determine whether they were sufficient in achieving ICFJ’s goals of establishing a broadcast newsroom training facility. Our broadcast consulting team traveled to Karachi, Pakistan for a 3-day trip to meet with the contractors and on-site contacts responsible for the build-out of the facility. During the trip, Broadcast Management Group identified potential construction issues and made recommendations on improvements to the current design plans which will have a lasting impact on the success of the school.
The biggest challenge for this consulting project was understanding the resources available for the facility in Pakistan – specifically power and internet. The location of the broadcast facility in Karachi was subject to frequent power loss, meaning our consulting team had to ensure that the contractor factored in power redundancies wherever necessary.
