Broadcast Management Group was contracted to provide event management services for Carnival Cruise Lines’ “Humor for Heroes” event in San Diego, CA. The event was held for US servicemen and women and featured comedy performances and entertainment. Broadcast Management Group was hired by an LA-based experiential marketing agency – Be.Core – and were asked to provide all of the audio, video, and lighting elements to support the live event.
Leading up to the Humor for Heroes live event, Broadcast Management Group conducted site surveys and participated in regular calls with the experiential agency and vendor partners. We carefully mapped out all of the load-in and load-out requirements, making sure we could accommodate a full build-out without the luxury of a prep day.
The Humor for Heroes event took place on a naval base in San Diego, which featured a stunning view of the San Diego Bay. Due to the location, security for the event was a challenge. All vendors and production crew – which totaled about 40 people – had to complete and submit extensive paperwork prior to the event.
This meant there could be no last-minute crew substitutes and all deliveries had to be carefully planned – meaning no equipment could be overlooked. We also had to allow for extra time for all delivery trucks to be screened once they arrived on location.
All production staff for the event were local to San Diego. Broadcast Management Group’s CEO filled the roll of Executive in Charge of Production, with BMG’s Executive Vice President of Production handling all of the pre-production and coordination.
Broadcast Management Group provided all lighting, staging, front of house audio, video coverage, and all in-venue monitors, including an LED wall and 6 HD monitors. The event was covered with 5 cameras, which were cut and distributed to all 7 on-site monitors along with graphic assets and video content. Broadcast Management Group provided consulting and guidance on the creation of the graphic assets leading up to the live event.
