Esri, an internationally renowned mapping company, contracted our live production team to provide technical management, execution, and guidance for a hosted daily show throughout their biggest annual event, a 3-day user conference hosted at their headquarters in Redlands, CA. The BMG team oversaw the execution of UCCL (User Conference Central Live) hosted in two different locations on campus. Over three days, BMG helped to execute a total of 18 live sessions.
BMG’s director worked with Esri to convert a traditionally in-person event into an engaging and successful online experience. Leading up to the event, Esri contracted a vendor with whom they had a past working relationship. Esri’s vendor supplied all the camera equipment, lighting, audio, and camera operators; however, they lacked expertise in live production. BMG was brought in to convert the technical setup into a live environment and to provide technical guidance and oversight.
BMG’s live production team utilized a REMI workflow to execute Esri’s 2021 UCCL. BMG installed live transmission infrastructure, teleprompters, wireless comms, and monitoring systems on the Esri campus in Redlands. The camera complement included five hard cams spread across two different set locations. IP transmission sent the audio and video feeds to BMG’s REMI broadcast hub in Las Vegas, where the program was switched, mixed, and streamed.
In addition to technical execution, BMG provided creative guidance and support for the event. Working with the Esri team, BMG helped to construct a run-of-show for each day of programming and provided guidance on graphic assets and delivery.
Dealing with multiple stakeholders and production partners can be challenging. However, by staying focused on delivering quality content, the BMG team could peacefully work among all parties to produce 3-days of impactful programming. Esri’s 2021 User Conference drew a record amount of registrants and was deemed a resounding success.
