The Atlantic Progress Summit

Producing The Atlantic’s Progress Summit Through a Distributed REMI Workflow

6Hours of Live Programming

11Live Panel Discussions

4Streaming Platforms

AtlanticLIVE brought in BMG to manage the technical execution and live production support for Progress Summit, a six-hour hybrid event held at NeueHouse Hollywood in Los Angeles.

The program included 11 live panels, one live remote guest, and four breakout sessions from additional locations inside the venue.

To support the event, BMG used REMI 2 on-site in Hollywood and connected the production back to BMG’s REMI hub in Las Vegas. The workflow allowed BMG to combine on-site production resources, centralized technical operations, and remote crew positions into one coordinated production model.

The Challenge – Managing a Hybrid Summit Across Multiple Workflows

Progress Summit required a live production model that could support in-room programming, remote participation, breakout sessions, streaming delivery, and coordination between multiple technical teams. BMG needed to keep the six-hour event running smoothly while managing the needs of The Atlantic, the venue team, on-site crew, Las Vegas hub team, and remote production staff.

A Multi-Format Event Program

The summit included 11 live panels, one live remote guest, and four breakout sessions from additional locations at NeueHouse.

Each element had to be coordinated within the larger event workflow while maintaining a consistent production standard for the live audience and remote viewers.

Multiple Stakeholders On Site

The production required close coordination between The Atlantic, BMG, and the NeueHouse event and technical teams.

Because the event was taking place inside an active venue, communication between production, venue operations, and technical teams was critical throughout the day.

Distributed Production Responsibilities

The production was not handled by one fully on-site crew.

BMG divided responsibilities between the on-site team in Hollywood, the REMI hub in Las Vegas, and remote production positions. That meant the workflow needed reliable communications, clear role definition, and centralized technical oversight.

The Solution: Centralized Technology With Decentralized Staffing

BMG executed Progress Summit using a REMI workflow designed around the needs of the event.

REMI 2 On Site in Hollywood

BMG deployed REMI 2, its REMI mobile unit, on site at NeueHouse Hollywood.

The on-site crew included the Director, Location EIC, Technical Manager, A2, Video Engineer, camera operators, and utilities. This team managed the in-venue production needs, video capture, and on-site technical support required for the summit.

Las Vegas REMI Hub Support

BMG connected the event to its REMI hub in Las Vegas, where key technical positions supported the production.

The Las Vegas team included the EIC, Technical Director, and A1, allowing core engineering, switching, and audio support to be handled from a centralized production environment.

Remote Production Roles

Additional crew members supported the event remotely, including the Graphics Operator, Transmissions/Comms Engineer, Encoding Engineer, and Production Manager.

This decentralized staffing model allowed BMG to bring the right people into the workflow without requiring every operator to be physically located at the venue.

Streaming, Captioning, and Transmission

BMG provided the video capture and transmission equipment needed on site, managed encoding to four platforms simultaneously, provided live captioning services, supported communications across the production team, and delivered editing support after the event.

Impact

BMG helped The Atlantic execute a six-hour hybrid summit with live panels, breakout sessions, a remote guest, and simultaneous streaming to four platforms.

By combining REMI 2 in Hollywood, centralized technical support from the Las Vegas REMI hub, and remote production staff, BMG created a flexible workflow that supported the complexity of the event without relying on a fully on-site production model.

The result was a coordinated hybrid production that brought together multiple teams, locations, and workflows while maintaining the technical reliability required for a high-profile live summit.
