Live Production

There are several factors that come into play when crewing a live production.

Our newest installment of BMG REWIND revisits our work with ARTE France on their 2008 election special in Washington, DC.  The 90-minute live program covered the outcome of the 2008 US election, which aired live in France and Germany.

In 2008, BMG was hired by ARTE France to produce a 90-minute live special from Washington, DC covering the outcome of the 2008 presidential election.

We recently completed a 2-part special for BET following the outcome of both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, titled “UnCONVENTIONAL”.  It wasn’t our first time working with BET, but it was our first time attending either party’s National Convention.

Putting together a live production is like putting together a puzzle.  You need to find the right pieces and make them fit.  We treat every project with a custom approach, because no two projects are alike.  Finding the best solution can be a challenge, but there are a number of factors that we look at to when determining our live production approach.

“What’s your production budget?” That’s the million-dollar question (though it’s rarely a million-dollar answer).

Much like Facebook and Netlix, which we discussed in episodes 1 and 2 of our blog series – Amazon is positioning themselves to be one of the biggest threats to broadcast television.  Not only is Amazon creating and distributing their own original content – much like the aforementioned companies – but they’re also revolutionizing live content and e-commerce.

Our newest Live Production Look-Back installment revisits the CBGB Music Festival - an all-day music festival that we produced in the heart of Times Square in New York City.  The event included 2 stages separated by 7 city blocks as well as vendors and concessions for fans in attendance.  Enjoy.

GoPro has had a good run.  Since launching in 2002, their tiny, user-friendly POV cameras have dominated the extreme sports industry.  If you ski or snowboard, you feel in the minority if you don’t have a Hero4 strapped to your head.  But it looks like GoPro doesn’t want to be pigeonholed to just extreme sports.  They’ve recently made some significant strides to try and reach new consumers.  Here’s a look at some of the new initiatives GoPro has made in an effort to expand beyond extreme sports.

Our newest Live Production Look-Back installment revisits PBS' "Peace Through Music" - a classical music concert that we produced at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC in the spring of 2014.  We shot with 12 cameras and produced a live-to-tape concert in front of dignitaries and world leaders.  Enjoy.
