The successful launch of Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket carrying NASA’s ESCAPADE spacecraft marked a historic moment in space exploration and a major achievement in live broadcast production.

The NG-2 mission was designed to deliver NASA’s ESCAPADE spacecraft into orbit and demonstrated a significant step forward for New Glenn’s reusable rocket program, including the successful landing of its massive first-stage booster.

To capture a mission of that scale, Blue Origin needed a broadcast model that could bring together live sources from across the country, keep key production decision-makers close to the launch, and maintain the control, redundancy, and precision required for a high-stakes live event.

BMG engineered one of the largest and most technically ambitious REMI productions ever executed, integrating more than 50 live camera feeds into its Network Operations Center in Washington, DC while supporting an on-site studio and video village at Blue Origin’s Cape Canaveral facility.

The Challenge: Keeping the Production Close to the Launch While Centralizing the Broadcast

A rocket launch creates a unique production challenge. The most important decisions need to happen close to the mission, but the scale of the broadcast requires a centralized technical operation that can manage feeds, communications, redundancy, and delivery without failure. BMG had to design a workflow that gave Blue Origin’s team the on-site visibility they needed while moving the core production operation into BMG’s Network Operations Center.

On-Site Production Leadership

Blue Origin’s directors, producers, hosts, reporters, and key stakeholders needed to be at Cape Canaveral, close to the launch environment and the teams supporting the mission.

Multi-Location Mission Coverage

The broadcast needed to include live shots from Blue Origin locations across the country, including Cape Canaveral, FL, Kent, WA, Huntsville, AL, Van Horn, TX, Cocoa Beach, FL and the Jacklyn barge in the Atlantic Ocean.

50+ Live Camera Feeds

BMG needed to ingest, monitor, shade, switch, mix, replay, and transmit more than 50 live feeds, including launch pad angles, studio cameras, field cameras, rocket-mounted cameras, scenic shots, and mission control sources.

Launch-Day Reliability

The production required full technical redundancy across signal flow, communications, production systems, and transmission. For a live rocket launch, there was no room for missed cues, disconnected teams, or system failure.

The Solution: On-Site Mission Control, Centralized REMI Production

BMG built the NG-2 broadcast around its proprietary REMI workflow, private Cloud Control Center™, and Network Operations Center in Washington, DC.

This allowed BMG to centralize the core production operation while still giving Blue Origin a strong on-site production presence at Cape Canaveral. The model gave the broadcast both sides of what it needed: mission proximity on site and technical control through the NOC.

From the NOC, BMG managed switching, graphics, replay, audio mixing, video shading, transmission, engineering, and real-time coordination across every location.

Custom Studio at Rocket Park

BMG built a custom studio inside Blue Origin’s Rocket Park facility at Cape Canaveral.

The studio gave hosts and reporters a polished on-air environment located close to the launch activity. Instead of isolating the broadcast from the mission, the studio allowed Blue Origin to tell the story from inside its own facility while maintaining the look and control of a professional live production.

This was an important part of the production model. The studio kept the on-air presentation close to the mission while the technical backbone remained centralized through BMG’s REMI workflow.

On-Site Video Village

BMG also built a dedicated video village for Blue Origin’s on-site directors, producers, and stakeholders.

The video village gave the team a central space to monitor feeds, follow launch timing, communicate with BMG’s NOC, and make real-time editorial decisions during the broadcast.

For a launch of this scale, the video village was critical. It allowed the production leadership to stay close to the rocket and the mission environment without requiring the full technical operation to be built on site.

Centralized Production Through the NOC

BMG’s Network Operations Center served as the central production hub for the broadcast.

The NOC team managed the core technical execution of the show, including switching, graphics, replay, audio, video shading of incoming feeds, transmission, monitoring, and engineering support.

The team included production and technical leadership, a technical director, graphics operator, replay team, audio engineer, and engineer-in-charge, all working within a redundant production environment built to support continuity throughout the mission.

Nationwide Signal Integration

BMG integrated live feeds from Blue Origin facilities and mission-related locations across the country into one connected workflow.

This allowed the broadcast to include the rocket launch, Mission Control, manufacturing facilities, testing facilities, field reporters, scenic coastal views, booster coverage, and rocket-mounted camera feeds within one coordinated production.

Rather than building separate full production environments at every location, BMG used its REMI infrastructure to connect each source back to the NOC.

Redundancy and Communication

BMG designed the production with redundancy across the REMI infrastructure, signal paths, communications, and transmission workflow.

That redundancy allowed on-site teams, remote locations, and the NOC to stay connected throughout the broadcast. It also gave the production the reliability required for a live mission where timing, communication, and signal continuity were critical.
