Design Environments That Bring Productions to Life

The environment is part of the production.

BMG develops production and scenic designs that give shows and live experiences a physical setting built around the story, audience, and production requirements. From studio sets and temporary event environments to branded stages and live production environments, we consider how every element will look, function, and perform in the real production environment.

Our approach connects creative design with production practicality. Camera positions, lighting, talent movement, audience sightlines, technology, branding, and technical requirements are considered together to create spaces that look intentional and work in practice.

What We Design

Set & Scenic Design

Develop the physical environment where the production takes place.

BMG creates concepts for studio sets, event stages, branded environments, interview spaces, presentation areas, and other scenic applications. Designs are developed around the format, audience, camera coverage, and overall creative direction.

Audience Experience & Flow

Production environments need to work for the audience in the room as well as the audience watching on screen. We consider how people enter, move through, view, and engage with the space from audience sightlines and stage orientation to presentation areas, displays, branded moments, and interactive elements.

For productions serving both live and remote audiences, we design with both experiences in mind from the beginning.

Designed for the Camera

A production environment has to work from more than one point of view. BMG develops scenic concepts around camera coverage, lighting, talent movement, audience sightlines, audio, displays, graphics, and the technical requirements of the production.

We consider framing, depth, camera positions, practical lighting, talent blocking, and how scenic and technical elements will appear on screen, helping ensure the environment works as well for the viewing audience as it does in the room.

Technology Integrated Into the Design

Today’s production environments increasingly blend physical scenic design with production technology. BMG designs environments that can incorporate LED walls and floors, large-format displays, projection, virtual sets and environments, interactive elements, confidence monitors, teleprompters, lighting, and other production technologies as part of the creative concept from the beginning.

From an LED-driven awards show environment to a virtual studio or a stage combining physical and digital scenic elements, we consider how technology can become part of the visual storytelling.

Brand Expression in the Environment

We translate brand identity into the physical and digital production environment through scenic elements, materials, displays, LED content, set pieces, signage, color, and other visual details.

The goal is to create an environment that feels unmistakably connected to the brand while supporting the content, production, and overall audience experience.

Scenic Details & Finishes

The details complete the environment. BMG develops and coordinates the visual elements that support the overall design, from scenic structures and architectural treatments to furniture, materials, textures, practical lighting, props, branded details, and physical elements designed to work alongside LED and virtual environments.

Each element is considered part of the larger visual system, creating a cohesive production environment across physical, digital, and on-screen elements.

Case Study Highlight: Hexagon Mining at MINExpo

Transforming a Trade Show Exhibit Into a Live Production Environment

For MINExpo 2024, Hexagon Mining needed its 7,000-square-foot exhibit space to do more than showcase products. The environment needed to attract attendees on a crowded show floor while functioning as a live venue for presentations, panel discussions, product demonstrations, livestreams, and audience engagement.

BMG helped transform the exhibit into an integrated production environment built around a main stage and 15-foot LED wall. Scenic, lighting, video, camera, audio, and production requirements were considered together to create a space that worked both for attendees in the room and audiences watching remotely.

More than 100 flown moving lights helped define the environment and give the exhibit visibility across the convention floor, while a seven-camera production system provided flexible coverage of presentations, panels, product demonstrations, and other live programming.

Across the seven-day engagement, BMG brought together production design, lighting, technology, engineering, livestreaming, and technical production to create an environment that operated more like a live event venue than a traditional trade show booth.

The result: a branded space designed not simply to be seen, but to become a platform for live programming, storytelling, and audience engagement.

FAQ

Production and scenic design shape the physical environment and visual experience of a show. This can include set design, staging, scenic elements, lighting considerations, camera positions, and the technical requirements needed to bring the environment to life on screen.

The set is part of the storytelling. Scenic design can establish the visual identity of a program, create environments for different segments, support on-camera talent, and reinforce the overall tone and brand of the production.

BMG can develop production environments that incorporate physical scenic elements, virtual components, graphics, LED displays, and other technologies depending on the needs of the production. Learn more about virtual studios here: https://broadcastmgmt.com/live-production/virtual-sets/

BMG considers more than how a set looks in person. Designs are developed around camera angles, lighting, talent movement, graphics integration, sightlines, audio, and other broadcast requirements to ensure the environment works on screen.
