International event company, Jack Morton, contracted Broadcast Management Group’s live production division to provide technical support and execution of a live-to-tape musical performance featuring singer-songwriter and Academy Award-winning actor Andra Day. BMG captured the event from the Miracle Theatre in Inglewood, CA. The final performance aired as part of the June 2021 Cannes Lions Film Festival.
Utilizing BMG’s REMI broadcast hub and REMI mobile unit, BMG captured the event using a remote production workflow that included centralized technology and decentralized staffing. On-location in Inglewood, BMG captured the performance using BMG’s Grass Valley LDX 86 WorldCam cameras and Panasonic AW-HE40SKPPTZ robotic cameras. The camera complement included two studio cameras, one ENG handheld, one Steadicam, one jib, and three robotic cameras. All video and audio feeds were transmitted via two LiveU 800 encoders to BMG’s REMI hub in Las Vegas. Return feeds were sent back using LiveU 650 encoders and received on-location via a 4-channel LiveU 2000 decoder.
Operating from our REMI Broadcast Hub were BMG’s TD, A1, and EIC. On-location at the venue was the director, AD, talent manager, lighting team, FOH audio team, production manager, camera operators, utilities, video engineer, and tech manager. Remote roles included teleprompting and supplemental production management. The musical performance was directed on-site from BMG’s REMI mobile unit by Todd Mason.
In addition to the technical execution of the event, BMG was also responsible for all lighting, backline, and COVID compliance, event management services, including catering and fulfillment of talent riders.
Post-show, our creative services team was responsible for compiling the final edit, including color correction and audio sweetening.
