A Future-Ready Model for Live Production & Staffing

In January, BMG announced a major expansion of our centralized technology and decentralized production teams model, designed to help organizations deliver tier-one broadcast-quality content without the cost and complexity of legacy facilities.

By leveraging BMG’s Network Operations Center in Washington, D.C. and the BMG Cloud Control Center™, clients can access switching, graphics, replay, audio, master control, playout, Media Asset Management, and transmission as on-demand services. This model eliminates the need to build and maintain underutilized control rooms while still providing low-latency, broadcast-grade production and scalable staffing when it matters most.

The approach is already proven across news, sports, entertainment, OTT, FAST channels, and enterprise video operations, enabling faster deployment, lower capital spend, and production systems that scale with real-world demand.

Managed Services Client Update: Virginia Public Media/PBS

Work continues to move quickly on Virginia Public Media’s new downtown Richmond headquarters, where BMG is delivering a full end-to-end managed services solution for television, radio, and digital operations.

This month, our Systems Integration team has been on-site building studios, video and radio control rooms, and core infrastructure as VPM transitions to a modern, cloud-connected broadcast operation. The project includes two television studios, multiple radio and podcast studios, master control, post-production, and a Media Asset Management system hosted in the BMG Cloud Control Center™, all designed to support 24/7 operations and long-term growth.

From early consulting and facility design through installation, training, and ongoing operational support, this project represents the kind of future-ready public media infrastructure that blends local production with centralized, scalable services. We’re proud of the progress so far and excited to see this facility come fully online in the months ahead.

IMDb Live at Sundance: A Full-Circle BMG Moment

This January marked a full-circle moment for BMG at the Sundance Film Festival. Ten years after first working with IMDb at Sundance, our team returned to produce the show, this time using a REMI-first production model built around centralized infrastructure.

Sundance presents unique challenges. Limited space, shared production environments, tight load-in windows, and the need to strike immediately make traditional production footprints difficult. This year’s show took place in a purpose-built tent, requiring a compact, highly efficient setup.

BMG deployed one of our smallest custom flight packs with four PTZ cameras controlled remotely from our Network Operations Center in Washington, D.C., nearly 3,000 miles away. Only two crew members traveled to Sundance, supported by 2 on-site local utilities, while the director, TD, graphics, audio, engineering, and transmission teams operated from the NOC.

Because the infrastructure was already in place, the DC-based crew was able to load graphics, review rundowns, and rehearse while on-site equipment was being built. The result was a polished live show watched by more than 16,000 viewers, delivered without latency issues or creative compromise.

College Basketball and Professional Hockey Produced at Scale

January was a strong month for college basketball and professional hockey, with BMG’s Sports Packaging Division delivering multiple live games produced entirely out of our Network Operations Center (NOC) in Washington, D.C.

Throughout the month, our decentralized teams supported broadcasts from venues across the country, using BMG’s proprietary, secure, and highly reliable connectivity between BMG and third-party mobile units and our centralized NOC. Once again, this demonstrated how a REMI-first model enables consistent, high-quality production across multiple markets while reducing travel, minimizing on-site infrastructure, and lowering environmental impact compared with legacy large-truck, heavy-travel production models.

From switching, graphics, audio, and monitoring inside the NOC to streamlined workflows at each venue, our crews executed a full slate of men’s and women’s college basketball games for ESPN platforms, as well as professional hockey broadcasts, with the same precision and reliability across locations. Each production followed a repeatable, scalable workflow designed to keep shows consistent, efficient, and broadcast-ready.

This is where the strength of BMG’s Sports Packaging Division stands out. A dedicated REMI-trained team, proven operating processes, and a large, permanent infrastructure enable us to scale game coverage across an entire month of competition, not just a single marquee matchup.

As the season continues, this model gives networks and partners the flexibility to cover more games in more locations with fewer constraints, while maintaining the on-air quality audiences expect.

Hosting the DC Production Community with SMPTE

Last week, BMG opened the doors of our Network Operations Center in Washington, D.C., to host the local production community for an SMPTE Washington DC Section deep dive into REMI and hybrid production workflows.

The evening offered a behind-the-scenes look at how modern live production operates today, from centralized control rooms and cloud-connected infrastructure to the planning, engineering, and people required to deliver high-stakes productions at scale.

Our panel discussed how REMI and hybrid models are being used across entertainment, news, sports, corporate programming, and live events; what it takes to maintain reliability and consistency across distributed workflows; and where the industry is headed as production teams become increasingly decentralized while leveraging a centralized infrastructure.

Thank you to our panelists and partners who helped make the night a success:

Events like this reinforce why BMG continues to invest in the production community in Washington, D.C. Sharing knowledge, opening our facilities, and having honest conversations about the future of the industry are core to how we operate. We’re looking forward to hosting more conversations like this in 2026.
